What is an audio book?

An audio book is simply a digitally recorded version of the printed paper book being read out aloud by a narrator. The narrator may be the author, a professional narrator or an actor. Often the recording may use a cast of narrators supported and embellished by the use of special sound effects.

1 book credit allows you to listen to any audio book in our library. If you find yourself wanting to listen to more books, you can add book credits to your subscription as you go.

What do I need to know about your 30 day free trial?

Sign up for our 30-day free trial, and get your first book free, no strings attached. Cancel anytime during those 30 days, no questions asked. Once your free trial has expired, your monthly subscription fee will be automatically charged to the billing information on your account, and you can continue to enjoy great audio books.

**Please note that your free trial begins the day you sign up. For example, if you signed up for the free trial on June 1st the last day of your trial would be July 1st.

Can I listen to more than one audiobook per month?

Absolutely! With our subscription plan, one credit is automatically added to your account each month. All other books can be purchased at advertised rate.

How much data does it take to listen to an audio book on my smartphone?

This is a tricky question because audio book titles vary in size. If you’re streaming an audio book, we suggest having at least 150MB of bandwidth. If you’re downloading the audio book to your iPhone or Android smartphone, it’s best to have at least 500MB of bandwidth free.

Why is this book unavailable to me?

When publishers get the rights to books, they may only get the rights to distribute in certain countries. We have to honor that distribution, so these books will be regionally restricted. If it were up to us, all audiobooks would be available worldwide!

Yes we do! Whether you’re on an airplane or in an area without network coverage, you can enjoy any previously-downloaded audiobooks that are saved to your device, since playing downloaded books doesn’t use data or require an internet connection. You won’t be able to d the download to our app, but just click on My Audiobooks to listen to your saved library.

Can I listen to an audiobook in the car?

Most certainly, as a rule of thumb, if a device is capable of playing music, then it is most likely capable of playing audio books also. For more information contact your device manufacturer for specific requirements.

What is a dramatized audio book?

A dramatized audio book, as the name implies, is a dramatized “play-life” version of the printed book, with usual full cast, music and sound effects.

What is an unabridged audio book?

An unabridged audio book is one that was narrated word for word. In such an audio book, nothing was removed from the printed book. It has the exact content with that of the printed book, albeit in audio format.

What is an abridged audio book?

An abridged audio book is one that is shortened and doesn’t contain the exact word for word narration as the printed book.

In which formats are audio books available?

The audio format may be in various forms to suit the many types of playback devices in the market today. In the past tapes were common formats, e.g. cassettes, currently compact discs are still a popular medium. Audiobooks NZ supplies MP3 and M4B digital format downloadable Audiobooks.
